What does Biden win mean for America and the World?

On January 20th 2021, at Midday Washington time, the United States of America will have a new president, Joe Biden. This has come as a shock to many evangelical Christians who have been praying for President Trump to win. Despite intense prayer and fasting for this to happen, many may be wondering, “Why didn’t God let President Donald Trump win?” and “What does Biden win mean for America and the World?”

God often deals with the World through the superpower in existence at the time. In the bible, he did this through Egypt in Genesis, Babylon and Persia in Daniel. Within these powers, God positions people through whom he reveals himself to the world. Joseph was such a person in Egypt and Daniel in Babylon and Persia. Through these powers God also defends Israel and so the superpower’s attitude towards Israel often reflects the moral state of that nation.

Broken promises

The previous superpower before the rise of the United States of America (USA) was Britain. Britain played a role in spreading the gospel around the world through missionaries and in the re-establishment of the nation of Israel. This status was lost through World War Two because Britain broke its promise to facilitate Jews to establish a home on their ancient homeland called Palestine at the time. Britain placed limits on Jewish immigration into Palestine at a time when Jews were fleeing the holocaust in 1939. In contrast, the USA acted as a safe haven for the Jews from Europe as the nation was almost not touched by the war.

The Fall of Britain and Rise of the USA

As a result of her betrayal, Britain lost her superpower status and the USA rose to take her place in accordance to Gods promise to Abraham,

I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.

Genesis 12:2-3

There is therefore a relationship between Israel, the superpower in existence and the world. This is because the superpowers in the ancient and modern ages influence world affairs which inevitably involves Israel.

Iniquity abounds

The current superpower is the USA which took on the role of spreading and teaching the gospel and defending Israel. However America has progressively been turning away from God, manifested by the decriminalization of abortion in 1973, the legalization of same sex marriage in 2015 and betraying Israel to its enemies for gain through the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. This set the stage for it to be judged and for it to lose its superpower status. God raised up a Jewish prophet called Jonathan Cahn to warn the nation of its demise if it did not repent. He did this through a book he wrote in 2012 called The Harbinger.

Gods window of Grace

After the events in 2015, it seemed that Americas course to judgment was set. However in 2016, because of the prayers of many Christians in response to The Harbinger and other revelatory warnings God had made, Donald Trump was elected the the President. Even though he was and still is far from perfect, God positioned Trump in the White House at this time to be his instrument of righteousness.

When he got into office, he cut funding to organizations and clinics outside the US that provided abortion services or offered abortion counseling services like past Republican presidents. However, he went further than his Republican predecessors by stating that any organization counseling women on abortion and using funds from elsewhere, even from its own government or a donor in another country, will no longer be eligible for any US funding. President Trump also withdrew the USA from the Iran nuclear deal and later declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel, making him the first world leader to do so in modern history!

God gave President Trump three opportunities to appoint supreme court justices which he used to place three conservative leaning judges on the highest court of the land. This created concern among his liberal opponents that his plan was to strike down the decriminalization of abortion through the supreme court and so there was a rush to legalize the practice at state level where the support was present.

However, despite Trumps efforts to reverse the iniquity that had been entrenched in the USA, in 2019, we began to see natural events that pointed to judgment having started.

Judgment begins

When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land

2 Chronicles 7: 13-14

Towards the end of 2019, Australia made news headlines around the world because of bush fires that ravaged a large part of the nation. These were not the worst that Australia had suffered. However what made them significant were the record breaking temperatures and drought that the continent experienced during this time. On the 17th of December 2019, Australia experienced its hottest day on record at the time with the national average temperature reaching a high of 40.9C (105.6F). These very hot conditions created by the lack of rainfall fueled the fires that blazed in Australia causing many to alarm that climate change was to blame.

On the 17th of December 2019, the very same day that Australia was experiencing its hottest day on record at the time, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organistation (FAO) declared an emergency in Somalia due to a locust invasion. FAO warned that the locusts threatened food security in the region since they can consume enough food to feed millions of people in a single day. The locust invasion affected not only Somalia, but also several other countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The same weather phenomenon that caused perfect wet conditions for large swarms of desert locusts to thrive in these regions was also responsible for the extreme temperatures in Australia! This phenomenon, called the Indian Ocean dipole was unusually strong that time.

Two weeks later, on December 31st 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was notified about unusual cases of pneumonia in the Chinese city of Wuhan which later turned out to be the start of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. By the end of February this year, it was clear that the virus was spreading out of control in several countries. In March, countries started closing their borders, imposing travel restrictions and shutting down cities to slow down the spread of the virus.

So if President Trump was actively taking actions that were opposing evil, why did judgment still commence? Even if there have been movements encouraging repentance around the world, fundamentally, repentance has not taken place. In fact the championing of sin has increased. In the last few months during the pandemic,

• New Zealand decriminalized abortion,
• The then “conservative” leaning US supreme court extended rights to gay workers in the country complicating employment terms for religious employers in the country,
• It was revealed by the media that in an interview last year, the arguably most influential church leader in the world said that gay couples should be allowed to have families and their unions given legal status!

America and the world choose defiance

The just concluded US elections were an opportunity for the nation to confirm its repentance and choose righteousness. Since the President elect is from a party that supports many anti-biblical principles like abortion and was even an architect of the Iran nuclear deal that put Israel in danger for gain, America has confirmed that she has rejected Godly ways. Despite sincere and fervent prayer of many Christians not only in America but around the world, God has to respect the will of the people. However, this has opened the way for further judgment from God, not only for America but the world because of her status and influence. Even if President elect Biden has promised to put effort in unifying the now severely divided nation, he will not succeed as true healing would have only come through true repentance as 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 promises!

What can we do?

All hope is not lost though, for those who still follow God. Even though the world is clearly speeding towards the tribulation which will be a time of judgment for those who reject his authority, we need to pray for God to continue slowing down evil in other ways. He has even promised to cut short the coming time of suffering, because he is a merciful and loving God.

For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

Matthew 24:21-22

His desire is that many will turn from sin and submit to His Word through Jesus Christ as their Lord, therefore receiving eternal life and securing their place in the coming age of true peace under Jesus’ earthly reign.
