Mysterious darkness hits Siberia, locals blame the devil

On Friday 20th July, something strange happened in Russia’s vast Yakutia region, which spans the majority of the country’s northeast, as inhabitants of the three different locales in the area witnessed. Day suddenly turned to darkness for a period of three hours. The darkness was so thick that the locals had to use lights and flashlights to be able to see from 11 am to 2pm. The Sun was not visible from 11:30 am. One local described it as follows,

“I couldn’t see a thing without switching lights on. We took torches to walk outside. But actually no one wanted to be on the street because the feeling was as if something heavy in the air was pressing on your chest.”

According to an official, people especially the elderly were so freaked out by the unexplainable occurrence that they started calling the local administration. Many were speculating that this could have been caused by wildfires but this was disputed by an official who said,

“If it was smog from fires, people would know,” he said. “There would be smoke and a burning smell. Our meteorological stations did not trace such a thing.”

Others have suggested that it could have been a solar eclipse, but that is not possible as there was none to occur that day. Also military tests and Aliens have been suggested as possible causes of the phenomenon. Some locals were convinced the yellow-tinged sky was the work of the devil.

The Siberian solar blackout seemed to follow a biblical pattern. In Exodus 10: 21-23, we read the following account,

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.

Now compare that with the account that was shared earlier about the Siberian solar blackout,

“I couldn’t see a thing without switching lights on. We took torches to walk outside. But actually no one wanted to be on the street because the feeling was as if something heavy in the air was pressing on your chest.”

The Siberian darkness almost literally fulfilled what happened in Egypt since it also had darkness that could be felt and one could not see without the help of artificial lighting. Just like the darkness in Egypt paralyzed peoples movement, the Siberian one caused people not to want to move about. The Egyptian darkness lasted 3 days, and the Siberian one lasted 3 hours! The darkness also seemed to be localized to an area of Siberia, just like how most of Egypt was in darkness and yet the Isrealites were unaffected in the area of Egypt where they stayed.

Also this event happened exactly seven days before the longest blood moon of the century that occurred on the 27th of this month. We discussed in previous posts how this eclipse was a prophetic sign of Jesus’ soon return based on several reasons. Both this Siberian solar blackout and the blood moon which occurred seven days apart seem to fulfill Acts 2:20 which says,

The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
